In a previous post it was mentioned how Shelleyes how do docking stations work with body cameras; and Shelleyes also offers a wide range of Docking station solutions (wired and wireless options, storage customization, etc.) to its customers. In this post Shelleyes will explain in detail the workflow of Dcoking station with body camera.
In the following we will be using the Shelleyes Dcoking Station 02/02N for product demonstrations.
How Do Docking stations Work? (DS02 Existing Solution)
The workflow of the DS02 Dock Station is as follows:
Camera Connection: The camera connects to the DS02 Dock Station either via a Pogo Pin or USB-C.
Dock Station: The dock station includes a USB Hub and Power Supply, which facilitates the communication between the camera and the computer while also powering the camera.
Computer Connection: The DS02 Dock Station connects to a computer through a USB cable.
Data Upload: Once connected, the data from the camera is uploaded to the computer using the DEMS (Data Management System) software.
Unlocking Camera Memory: To unlock the camera’s memory, a USB API is required. This ensures that the data can be accessed and transferred to the computer.

How DS02N Dock station work? (Existing Solution)
Camera to Dock Station:
The camera connects to the DS02N Dock Station either through a Pogo Pin or a USB-C connection.
DS02N Dock Station:
The dock station includes a USB Hub, Power Supply, and a USB Server that converts USB to an RJ45 Ethernet connection.
The dock station is connected to a Network Switch via an RJ45 Ethernet cable.
Each DS02N dock is assigned one IP address.
Network Switch to Server:
The network switch is connected to the Server.
APIs Required:
Two APIs are needed:
To detect the DS02N’s IP address and find the connected USB device.
A USB API to unlock the camera’s memory for data access.
The workflow outlines the communication from the camera to the server via the dock and switch, requiring IP detection and memory access using APIs.

Customized Solutions
A customized solution for advanced encryption for DS02. Below is a detailed description:
Camera (new processor) to new DS02 Docking Station:
The cameras are connected to the new DS02 base station via RJ45 or USB-C connectors.
Each camera is assigned an IP address after connection to the base station.
New DS02 Docking Station:
The new Docking Station contains a network switch and a power supply.
The Docking Station is connected to a higher-level switch or directly to a server.
API development required:
An API needs to be developed in order to unlock the camera’s memory and possibly enable data transfer via FTP encryption.
The difference between this scenario and the existing one is that the camera itself will have a separate IP address and the data may be accessed via a higher level of encryption and data management mechanisms (e.g. FTP encryption).
