1. What is APN

APN (Access Point Name) is a required parameter for a body camera to connect to the 4G network via a SIM card.

  • Function: Ensures the device can access the carrier’s network for video transmission, real-time positioning, push-to-talk, and other functions.
  • Variation: Different carriers and SIM card types may require different APN settings.

2. Why some SIM cards require manual APN input while others work automatically

  1. Consumer SIM Cards (personal use)
    • Most consumer SIMs support automatic APN detection.
    • When inserted into the body camera, they can connect directly without manual input.
  2. IoT SIM Cards or Industry-specific SIMs
    • Generally do not support automatic detection.
    • The user must manually enter the APN information provided by the carrier for proper connectivity.

2.1 How to Configure APN Using Cam Manager

If your body camera requires manual APN setup, it can be configured via the Cam Manager software:

  1. Connect the body camera to the PC and open Cam Manager.
  2. Log in to the software and go to 4G Settings.
  3. Enter the following parameters provided by your carrier:
    • APN
    • APN User (if required)
    • APN Password (if required)
  4. Click Apply to apply the configuration.
  5. Restart the body camera, then check if the 4G connection is establish.

Q2: Does a body camera need to re-enter the APN when the SIM card is changed?

Yes. Each time the SIM card is replaced, the body camera will clear the previously stored APN settings.

  • If the new SIM card supports automatic APN recognition (such as most consumer SIMs), the body camera can connect without manual input.
  • If the new SIM card does not support automatic APN detection (commonly IoT SIMs or industry-specific SIMs), the APN information provided by the new carrier must be manually entered.
