1. What is a Pogo Pin?

The Pogo Pin (spring-loaded contact) is a type of electrical connector commonly used in precision electronics. It features a spring-loaded metal probe that ensures reliable and efficient electrical contact between devices. In Shelleyes systems, Pogo Pins are widely used to connect multi-port docking stations with body cameras for charging and data transfer.

2. How Does It Work?

Pogo Pins work by:

  • Spring-loaded design that allows the pin to maintain consistent pressure and contact with the mating surface;
  • Conductive metal tips that ensure strong electrical conductivity and low resistance;
  • Pins are grouped together to separately handle power supply and data transmission.

When a body camera is docked, the Pogo Pins on the docking station align with contact pads on the bottom of the device, enabling simultaneous charging and data upload without the need for manual cable insertion.

3. Maintenance recommendation

Over time, Pogo Pins can accumulate dust, oil, or oxidation, which may lead to:

  • Unstable USB connections;
  • Slow or intermittent charging;
  • Data upload errors or interruptions.

To maintain optimal performance, it is recommended to clean the Pogo Pins every 1–2 weeks:

  • Use a lint-free swab or soft brush to remove dust and debris;
  • For oil or oxidation, lightly moisten the swab with isopropyl alcohol (>95%) and gently wipe;
  • Allow the pins to dry completely before reconnecting the device;
  • Avoid using sharp metal tools to prevent damaging the contacts.
