The RJ45 interface is a standard network connector used for Ethernet connections. It is commonly found in computers, switches, servers, and various data acquisition devices. Structurally, it features an 8-position, 8-contact (8P8C) configuration and supports efficient data communication over Ethernet cables such as Cat5e or Cat6. It meets the bandwidth and stability requirements of most Local Area Network (LAN) environments.

Fundamentally, the RJ45 interface is a network-oriented data transmission port, well-suited for continuous, high-speed, and large-volume data transfer scenarios. It not only enables data exchange between devices but also allows terminal equipment to automatically sync and communicate with back-end platforms via the network.

Comparison with USB Wired Transmission

Although USB interfaces also support data transfer, they were originally designed for point-to-point (Device to Host) communication, mainly for peripheral connections to a single host. In contrast, the RJ45 network interface offers several advantages:

Bandwidth Suitable for Large File Transfers: Especially when uploading high-definition video, audio, and image files from multiple body cameras at once, the stable network environment provided by RJ45 ensures better data integrity and transmission efficiency.

Multiple Device Access: Through a network switch or router, RJ45 can connect multiple devices simultaneously, allowing concurrent data uploads to the same platform or server.

Application of RJ45 in the DS02N Docking Station

The DS02N multi-port Docking Station developed by SHELLEYES is equipped with a built-in RJ45 network port, enabling the docking station to connect to a local area network. In conjunction with the PC-based DEMS Collector software, it supports automated data uploading, synchronization, and centralized management. This setup is widely used in law enforcement agencies, security services, and traffic enforcement units.

Working Principle

The actual workflow of RJ45 in the DS02N Docking Station is as follows:

  1. Start the DEMS Collector Software
    Launch the DEMS Collector software provided by SHELLEYES on a PC connected to the local network.
  2. Connect DS02N to the LAN
    Use an RJ45 Ethernet cable to connect the DS02N Docking Station to the same LAN. Power on the docking station. DEMS Collector will automatically detect and identify the DS02N on the network.
  3. Dock Body Cameras
    Insert body cameras one by one into the DS02N ports. The Docking Station will then automatically upload all video, audio, and image data from the cameras to the PC via the RJ45 network—no manual file copying is required.

With the RJ45 interface, the DS02N enables a fully automated workflow from device docking to data delivery, significantly enhancing the efficiency and security of law enforcement data management.
