1. What Is a SIM Card Slot?

A SIM card slot is used to insert a 4G/5G mobile network SIM card, allowing the body camera to access remote real-time features such as video transmission, GPS positioning, and voice communication over the cellular network.
Many Shelleyes devices that support wireless communication come equipped with a standard Nano SIM slot.


2. How to Properly Insert a SIM Card

To ensure a stable mobile network connection, please follow these steps to insert the SIM card correctly:

  1. Power off the device.
  2. Open the protective cover of the SIM card slot.
  3. Prepare a Nano SIM card (the smallest SIM size).
  4. Insert the SIM card into the slot in the correct orientation, with the metal contacts facing up (refer to the device diagram for alignment).
  5. Close the protective cover securely to ensure proper sealing.
  6. Restart the device to complete the network connection.

Notes:

  • Avoid hot-swapping (inserting or removing the SIM card while the device is powered on), as this may lead to detection failures or network issues.
  • Make sure the SIM card is activated and has a valid mobile data plan.
  • If the device still fails to connect, verify that the SIM card’s network bands are compatible with the supported frequency bands of the device.

3. What If the SIM Card Is Too Thin or Not Making Proper Contact?

  • Some SIM cards—especially trimmed cards or those made from softer materials—may be too thin and fail to make stable contact.
  • Here are some solutions:
    • Apply a thin adhesive shim (approx. 0.1–0.2 mm thick) to the back of the SIM card to increase its thickness.
    • Replace with a standard-thickness, uncut Nano SIM card.
    • After insertion, ensure the card is tightly secured in the slot with no looseness.

⚠️ Warning: Do not use overly thick shims, as they may damage the slot or cause the SIM card to get stuck.


4. Can the SIM Card Be Inserted and Removed Frequently?

While Shelleyes devices support repeated insertion and removal of SIM cards, the following risks should be considered:

  • The mechanical structure of the slot may wear out over time; frequent swapping can loosen contact pins and lead to connection issues.
  • A damaged SIM slot may cause the device to fail to recognize the SIM card, disabling 4G functions.
  • It is recommended to avoid frequent SIM card changes. If frequent changes are necessary, have them performed by a qualified technician and always power off the device before doing so.

Proper handling can significantly extend the service life of the SIM card slot.
