What are the differences?
What Are Intercom, Monitoring, and Broadcast? What Are the Differences?
In body camera systems and backend management platforms (such as CMSV), the three common types of voice communication are: Two-way Talk (Intercom), Remote Listening, and Broadcast. Each differs in communication direction, application scenario, and user experience.
1. Two-way Talk (Intercom)
- Definition: A bidirectional voice communication feature, allowing real-time conversation between the operator and the body camera.
- Features:
- Real-time interaction, supporting back-and-forth communication.
- Suitable for command dispatch and on-site assistance where instant communication is required.
- Interaction Mode:
- Platform speaks → Device hears.
- Device speaks → Platform hears.
2. Monitor(Remote Listening)
- Definition: A one-way audio monitoring feature, allowing the platform to remotely listen to ambient sounds around the front-end device.
- Features:
- No confirmation or operation needed on the device side.
- No audio prompt on the device; communication is not heard by the device user.
- Suitable for covert monitoring or collecting audio in emergencies.
- Interaction Mode:
- Device speaks → Platform hears.
- Platform speaks → Device does not hear.
3. Broadcast
- Definition: A feature that allows the platform to send voice messages to one or more devices simultaneously.
- Features:
- One-to-many message delivery for coordinated commands.
- Devices can receive messages but cannot respond.
- Ideal for mass notifications or unified instructions.
- Interaction Mode:
- Platform speaks → Multiple devices hear it.
- Devices → Cannot respond.
| Function | Communication Direction | Response Capability | Application Scenario |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intercom | Bidirectional | Yes | Command dispatch, emergency support |
| Monitoring | Device → Platform | No | Silent monitoring, anomaly detection |
| Broadcast | Platform → Multiple devices | No | Mass notifications, unified commands |
